I don't consider myself a great critic or anything but I'll do my best to be helpful.

For vision and originality I can't say it's astounding, but then again it's only a lantern; I think it's okay to focus on small atmospheric pieces like this! (And I understand it's better when practicing a new media)

Your technique is amazing, especially for a beginner! You've managed to capture intense, atmospheric colors that don't run together but still have a freedom and flow to them! It really makes for a pleasing impact on the viewer, the lantern actually looks like it's glowing softly.

My only critique I can really ask of you would be to add a roof or ceiling for the lantern to be hanging from. Also perhaps adding a hint of scenery in the lower part of the picture to imply a garden, mountains, city or just lines for a sliding door. That of course is up to you. Floating lanterns are cool too afterall.

In closing, might I add that I'm totally envious of your brushstroke control and your consistency with the colors and strokes is really amazing.
